One Hour Instructional Technology Workshop

Learning Objectives:
NETS - T:
II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES
Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
a) design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional
strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
c.) identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
d.) plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM
Teachers implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
a.) facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
b.) use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.
c.) apply technology to develop students’ higher order skills and creativity.
d.) manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:

Instructional Process:
Prior to the session:
During the Session:
1. The session will be introduced explaining the rationale and purpose for the workshop using the agenda
provided to attendees.
2. The iPad app Story Kit will be introduced by providing an example completed by one of our MOID students using an iPad connected to the LCD projector. The student’s book has images, written words, and narration of the pictures.
3. Using the Story Kit Handout, the facilitator will demonstrate to the attendees how to begin a Story, add images
from the internet or ones taken using the camera, add text to the story, and narrate. While the facilitator is demonstrating, the attendees will complete their own short story using the iPad provided.
4. The YouTube video “Introduction to Using Timetoast” will be shown to introduce the timeline tool.
5. Each attendee will log onto Timetoast.com using the login created by the facilitator prior to the workshop session.
6. The facilitator will demonstrate how to create a timeline as the attendees create their own brief timeline using their own account.
7. The final tool will be introduced by watching the YouTube video “How to Make An Interactive Image Using ThingLink” .
8. The attendees will use A ThingLink How To handout to create their own ThingLink image with guidance from the facilitator.
9. To end the session, the attendees will engage in a short discussion/brainstorming session to discuss possible
uses within various classroom subject areas.
After the Session:
1. At the end of the session, participants will be sent a link to a Google Doc form/ survey to complete.
Assessment/ Evaluation:
The Google form survey will provide feedback about the different tools and how they can be used within the participants’ classrooms.

- After the workshop, the teacher will be able to select at least one of the three technology tools to integrate into an upcoming lesson plan.
- After the workshop, the teacher will able to plan, create, and present a Story Kit story to their students and instruct students to create own Story Kit using school iPads.
- After the workshop, the teacher will be able to plan, create, and present a timeline using Timetoast and instruct students to create own time line in the computer lab.
- After the workshop, the teacher will be able to plan, create and present a ThingLink image and instruct students to create own image in computer lab.

Instructional Process:
Prior to the session:
- Story Kit will be uploaded to the iPads
- Accounts for each participant were created for Timetoast and ThingLink using their APS log in user name (where available) and a generic password to allow for time in the workshop to be spent learning and using the tool(s). (Permission was received for the creation of these accounts in the participants’ names.)
- Handouts printed and compiled along with Agenda
